Is bread good for dogs?
Bread mainly contributes carbohydrate and calories. A complete and balanced dog food already supplies energy and required nutrients, so bread does not improve a dog's diet. Frequent pieces can make weight control harder and displace more useful food.
A tiny plain piece may be tolerated by a healthy dog without a wheat allergy, but that does not make sandwiches, toast toppings, bakery products, or raw dough safe. The ingredients and preparation determine the risk.
Why is raw bread dough dangerous?

Can dogs eat toast or sourdough bread?
A tiny piece of plain fully baked toast or sourdough is usually no more concerning than plain bread for a healthy dog. Do not add butter, garlic spread, jam, chocolate spread, avocado, cheese, or sugar-free toppings. Sourdough starter and unbaked dough remain unsafe because they can ferment and expand.
Can dogs eat whole-wheat or seeded bread?
Plain fully baked whole-wheat bread may be tolerated by dogs without wheat sensitivity. Seeded loaves require more caution: large seeds can be hard to digest, nuts add fat, and some recipes include raisins, garlic, or sweeteners. Check the full label rather than assuming “whole grain” or “artisan” means dog-safe.
Can dogs eat brown bread?

Crust is not nutritionally different enough to deserve a separate serving. A tiny plain crust may be tolerated, but hard pieces can be a choking risk for a dog that gulps.
